About the Project

"It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters in the end."

Between the Points

Whoever said artwork must be created in a studio?  I've been given the opportunity to relocate to British Columbia, and I will explore the possibility for moving and travel to be the catalyst in artwork creation as I meander my way from New York to Vancouver.  No more will I have an easel and well adjusted light source.  The constraints on the artwork will involve a restriction of size and material, as well as how and where the artworks can be created.

Creating a unique and temporal body of work that involves the action of travelling, as well as the individuals involved, is the goal for this project.  People whom I interact with physically along the journey, as well as those involved through this project, will influence the works production and physical place after creation.  Each individual artwork created will be mailed to the different individuals involved (that could be you) across the United States.  The work will become as scattered across the country as the coordinates of a map at a much faster rate than typically experienced, for within a month of arriving to my destination all artwork created will be distributed elsewhere.  In the end, I will hold nothing but the memories of the experience, and those involved will have a physical memento of the process.

THE DETAILS:  I will start the drive Monday August 5th from Red Hook, New York towards Vancouver, British Columbia.  The knee surgery I am currently recovering from requires me to stop and stretch every 2-4 hours along the way, which makes for a perfect time to stop, reflect, and produce some artwork.  I estimate the drive will take roughly 7 days, having me arrive around August 12th.  All Postcards will be mailed to those involved in the project between August 5th and August 12th, and all Artworks created with be shipped out to those involved in the project no later than September 12th.
